Towards a Better World
The origin of JSS Mahavidyapeetha (JSSMVP), a formidable educational movement, can be traced to the establishment of a small hostel in 1928 to cater to the accommodation needs of students pursuing higher studies in Mysore. His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji established the Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Mahavidyapeetha (JSSMVP) in 1954.
The Mahavidyapeetha continues to play an important role in expanding the scope of its activities to several branches of knowledge, welfare and culture. Its educational efforts span crèches for toddlers of working rural women, schools to impart primary and secondary education in both Kannada and English medium, Colleges, Polytechnics, Technical, Medicine, etc. In order to realize its mission, it has equipped itself with an extensive infrastructure and an army of dedicated and highly qualified human resource.
Vision and Values
The vision of serving mankind began in the 10th century, by Jagadguru Sri Veerasimhasana Mahasamsthana Math, at Suttur Srikshethra, Mysore District, Karnataka. This rich legacy and tradition is carried forward in the same fervour that was initiated centuries ago, focusing on purpose as expansive and yet as specific as improving quality of life through human Development. A long and healthy life, education for all and a decent standard of living, the indicators of human development, have been the underlying philosophy JSSMVP. These values have enabled JSS Mahavidyapeetha to growfrom strength to strength.
His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji
His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the 23rd pontiff of the Srimath, was born on 29.8.1916 and ascended the holy seat on 24.02.1928. He took up the responsibilities of the Srimath along with his guru Manthra Maharshi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Mahaswamiji. A firm believer in the good of one and all, he was at the helm of affairs of the Srimath for more than half a century – a period that Srimath witnessed far reaching contributions to society. He sought nothing but welfare of all. He also established many trusts and societies from Medical Service to rural development to promotion of art & music. He was instrumental in spreading the teachings of Sharana Sahitya, and thus laid a strong foundation for a movement called JSS.
His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji is the 24th pontiff of Sri Suttur Math, Swamiji who assumed the Peetha in 1986 at the young age of 29 years. After completion of postgraduation in Kannada literature, coupled with spiritual training under the guidance of his illustrious predecessor His Holiness Jagadguru Dr Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, he began his efforts of deepening and expanding the contributions of JSS MVP to far greater heights. His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji is instrumental in establishing the ‘Bharatiya Samskruthika Parishath’, at all India level, by uniting the collective leadership of the heads of different religions, with an aim to converge all rich traditional knowledge and cultural heritage, for the benefit the mankind

Our Contribution
Under the untiring efforts of Jagadguru Dr. Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, the Mahavidyapeetha began laying a strong foundation for a great educational and cultural institution. Continuing the rich legacy, His Holiness Jagadguru Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Mahaswamiji has grown this institution into a formidable movement. Today, JSSMVP is an unparelled force in the field of education and has over 300 institutions under its fold, from kindergartens to postgraduate centres and postdoctoral research catering to the educational needs of more than 1,00,000 students.
